Wow, it has been a chaotic couple of days here! But we've left a bit of a mess that really needs cleaning up, and only a moderator can do it.

I'm specifically talking about the off-topic stuff that has been posted to the "Hi, my name is..." thread. I think that that thread needs to be cleaned up as a matter of urgency. I'm not asking for the off-topic stuff (of which I am responsible for some) to be deleted outright, just perhaps moved to an adjunct "Hi, my name is - adjunct" thread.

My rationale is this: I think that that thread needs to be very approachable and non-intimidating for people new to this site, and I think that in the last week it has become intimidating and unapproachable. There are people who's first post to that thread is the first time (or one of the first times) they've mentioned their sexuality to anyone.

It can be a really difficult and scary thing to do, and that thread needs to feel really safe for people in that situation. Most of us know that bottling up our feelings with respect to our sexuality can be really harmful (it sure was for me!), and I think we need to make it as comfortable and as safe as possible for people to start talking about it.

So please, mods, do something about the state of the "Hi, my name is..." thread. Thank you.

*Also provides fanfare*.

I agree with what Chris has said, it is really important to make people feel welcome here.

*Also ALSO provides fanfare, but in 6/8 to screw all you 4/4's up!*

Mmm, I agree.  It needs a clean up.  Or perhaps we could just start another up.  But that other thread was THE ORIGINAL introduction.  Take the "Hi, my name is..." thread away and Qnet is NOTHING!  NOTHING, I SAY!

...Chris.

I suggest we kept the original thread up and running, because it also shows how many of us are a part of Qnet. That's welcoming in itself! But we'll try to keep in on-topic as much as possible (greetings) and I'll do some tidying up when we need to split topic etcs. Sound good?

:)

I thought about establishing a new 'my name is...' topic, but then I realised it would lack a lot of what that topic has become. Plus, I think people only read back a few pages on it, so really it's always new/up-to-date with the most recently introduced Qnetters :)

Have fun, gals and guys!
