ʻ... fortunate is a human being, straight or gay, who has such lifelong love.ʼ
The Honourable Michael Kirby AC, CGM
Fruitful Love is a performance of literature and music that draws attention to the warmth
and humour of relationships. Focussing on same sex relationships, Fruitful Love, suggests
that where ever there is human presence, there will always be a place for intimacy and
tenderness, be it at the dining table or on the battlefield.
Performers:
Performing this collage of music and word is a mix of Canberraʼs finest performers including
Louise Page (soprano) Elaine Loebenstein (piano) Chris Latham (violin) Peter Smith
(baritone) Jarrad West (tenor) Jude Kohn (vocalist) Robyn Archer (vocalist) Peter J Casey
(vocalist) David Atfield (actor) Canberra Gay and Lesbian Qwire (vocal ensemble), with
special contributions from Andrew Barr, Miriam Margolyes, Michael Kirby, Patrick White,
Dorothy Porter and Timothy Conigrave.
Artists and Marriage:
Whilst most of our Federal Parliamentarians and clergy persist with the notion that gay
marriage is an issue to be debated, artists have always known and celebrated that love in all
its forms, contributes to an economically thriving, nourishing and nurturing society. Fruitful
Love looks at same sex relationships from the perspective of artists and distils the truth that
the commitment of marriage is an affirmation of the human soulʼs fundamental search for
love and companionship.
Producer Ben OʼReilly:
Fruitful Love producer Ben OʼReilly has been an actor and event producer for over 30 years.
Beginning his career as a child actor with ABC television, Ben has performed in numerous
stage, television and film productions. A recent resident of the ACT, Ben has been inspired
by the breadth and depth of artistic expression in Canberra. For Ben, true leadership does
not lie in the hands of politicians, but rather in the unique talents, generosity and commitment
of artists.
