Anything goes / Re: Help gar..
« on: 07 March, 2010, 07:31:23 pm »
Hey Counter2 :) This is probably way out of date and all resolved and stuff by now, but I couldn't help putting my two cents in!

You know most people don't just come out once.  I have to "come out" to every new person I meet.  I told my friends a long time before I told my parents.  I told my brother before I told my parents, too, and then I told my mum before I told my Dad.
Maybe being honest with your brother won't be as bad as you think.  Of course there's nothing wrong with keeping it to yourself until you're ready; but do you really want to spend the rest of your life lying?  Telling your parents "oh, he's lying about the porn" is just going to set you up as enemies.  Anyway, JaisonDrake is probably right; I doubt he'd mention anything to your folks... who talks about porn with their parents?!

Anyway, the point is, if your brother confronts you about it, maybe you could consider being honest.  Coming out to him does not mean you will also have to tell your parents, or people at school.  If he's genuine about being ok with it, then he will understand that you want to keep it secret.

Hope things all work out :)

Meeting people / Band Quest
« on: 07 March, 2010, 09:27:38 am »
Why hello there.

I used to post on this board all the time, but I dropped off the qnet planet when I began cohabiting with my girlfriend.  I've come back because I am on a quest!  And qnet has been most wonderous in the past with helping me with my various quests...

I am fishing for people who might be interested in "banding up" with me.  I am a "folk" singer; I've been performing gigs for the last four years unaccompanied (singing), doing mostly traditional celtic stuff, but I'd like to branch out, do some modern stuff with -gasp- instruments.  I thought it might be really fun to try and form a lesbian/queer band... I'm pretty flexible with style, as long as there's a part for me to sing ^_^

So, if you play something and you're interested in maybe getting together to chat about it, let me know ^_^ we can chat here or meet somewhere safe like Bit Bent so you don't have to worry about me turning out to be some 60 yr old sleeze.

Thanks for hearing me out :D

Hey Strangers!  I'm an ex-regular, here with ulterior motives as per usual :D

Sooooo, I'm 23 (I think.  I'm losing track of my birthdays) I live northside with my girlfriend, work at a bookshop, spend most of my pay there; I'm a folk musician and I'm here again basically because I'm looking for a band ^_^

What up, y'all?

Your experience / Re: finally happy with myself?
« on: 29 August, 2008, 07:59:53 am »
Hi Fence!  I think MusicIsLife said pretty much what I'm about to say, but with camper punctuation:

You can't will yourself to not like someone.  You may as well try and force yourself not to be gay.  Even if you can't tell other people, you should at least be honest with yourself: admit, to yourself, that you have a crush on this girl - and instead of feeling ashamed and defeated by this, try and embrace it.  Crushes can be fun, if you don't take them too seriously.  Everyone is different I know, and just because this works for me, doesn't mean it will be helpful for you - but look at it like this.  The only thing that will make the crush go away is time.  According to you, this girl is not going to get with you.  So while you're sitting around, waiting for someone else to fall in love with and break this spell over you, do you really want to be feeling embarrassed, ashamed and sad?  It's ok to have a crush on her.  I mean, I wouldn't suggest stroking her face in her sleep or building a little shrine to her or anything.  But see it for what it is: something painful, yes, but something that is also exhilarating.

Remember that nothing you're feeling is wrong or abnormal: but it is uniquely yours, and you can be proud of that.

Eeeep, I sound like my therapist!  Love yourself Fence.  Love your inner fence.  Heh.  Inner fence.  Like a little white picket thing around your heart...

Ahem.  Good luck deary.  Remember to vent often.  I knew this woman who landed herself in a mental ward, because she kept things pent up for so long, and then one morning she woke up with no memory.  Remember who you are, Simba.

Anything goes / Room (again...)
« on: 28 August, 2008, 06:27:21 pm »
It's like queer properties!

But seriously.  Anyone looking to move out?  In, like, the next fortnight?  Or even in the next month... We are looking for a (queer friendly) house mate to move in as soon as possible: nice house, nice area, nice roomies.  Send me a "personal message" if you're interested and I'll let you know more details.

Are you calling me a girly housemate ladymagpie or are you talking about the house mate who is, (infact) male-anatomily-challenged?

3 good things..

1. INTERNET

2. Very happy with life at the moment, work is great. Dont think i'll ever get sick of call centres. Hanging out with significant other is always great. :)

3. I has pistachio nuts... Om nom nom!

Oh, your internet works?!  Congratulations!  We should have a celebratory celebration.  Like a LAN party.  Do you want to be the girly housemate?  You can be the girly housemate if you want.  Also, clean the honey off the shower walls before I get home, or I'll make your significant other sleep on the porch next time.

Your experience / Re: Words to describe attractiveness
« on: 24 August, 2008, 04:53:05 pm »
As a linguist, I find this discussion fascinating!  Dictionary definitions never fully explain the meaning of a word, because they miss the individual nuances of association, emotion, context and so forth.  A speech community (group of people who speak the same variety of a language) may have agreed norms about what a word more generally means, but even then there will be a large amount of variation between individuals.  We might agree, for example, that "hot" and "beautiful" refer roughly to an attractive individual; with the former putting emphasis on sexual attraction and the latter on aesthetic attraction: however, other associations can be radically different.  I don't, for example, feel that "hot" has any negative connotations in the sense that I might be degrading the person in question by saying this: however, some of you obviously feel that by calling someone "hot" rather than "beautiful" you are reducing them to a sexual object, and conversely that "beautiful" is instead somehow raising their status as a person.  It makes it hard to "not offend" someone, because everyone really means something different when they say the same thing...

Wow!  That was boring AND redundant.

Girly housemate and I swore lots and lots and jumped up and down while less girly housemate looked sadly at the void of internetlessness, and all this glorious bustling seems to have made it work!  Well, less girly housemate still has no net, but that just goes to show he should swear more.  Maybe I'm speaking too soon - still time for it all to blow up again.

1. INTERNET!  I rub honey over it and stroke it erotically.

2. Might be moving in with my lady friend, which would be jolly f******g awesome.

3. I made $87 busking!  Holy easy money, batman!  Which reminds me, aforementioned lady friend bought me a batman comic ^_^  she is feeding my g33k.  And then I watched football with her, so I guess that means I am feeding her jock.

Hope you all are well out there in somewhere-else land!

Hi Qnet!  I don't have internet at the moment - I'm using my girl's net today (hello, you gorgeous ghost-reader you).  Thus was my silence caused.  Also:

1.  America!  Oh my deity.  So many art galleries and museums and walking and shopping and of course the pretty lady.  Oh, and SQUIRRELS!  And the metropolitan museum of art in New York had an exhibition on comic book superhero fashion.  Woot!

2. New housemates! They are tender and delicious.

3. New Job!  Selling rings that cost more than my house.  So nuts.
