SpringOut 2006 - Canberra's queer festival

SpringOut is Canberra's annual queer festival, and it runs throughout November. There is lots to do, all month long!

Who says nothing ever happens in Canberra? With more than 20 events, there are events for everybody. Check out the calendar on the SpringOut website.

Events in SpringOut are organised by community groups around Canberra. Going along to these events is a great way to find out more about these groups and how to get involved!

Here are some more events that might be of interest to young queer people (note that some events are sadly 18+ only):

The Power of Song

Canberra Gay and Lesbian Qwire performance of songs of love and change.

When: 7:30pm on Saturday 4 November 2006

Where: Llewellyn Hall, ANU.

Guest choirs are the Canberra Union Voices and the Sydney Solidarity Choir.

Sordid Lives & Canberra Pride Awards

A black comedy about white trash.

Photographic Exhibition

Opening Night - Mardi Gras 2006 - 'The Greatest Show on Earth.' A collection of the vibrant, the witty & the definitely fabulous.

When: 6pm - 9pm, Friday 10 November. Exhibition ends 10 December.

Fair Day

SpringOut Fairday is Canberra's GLBTI community day. Come and find out what community groups are out there, and what they're up to. Enjoy the performances and enter your pet in the pet parade! Grab a few gifts and something to eat!

When: 10am to 3pm, Saturday 11 November 2006

Where: Westlund House, 16 Gordon St Acton.

Cost: FREE.

There will be over 25 stalls including:

Highlights include: The Pet Parade, The Tulleys and the Canberra Gay and Lesbian QWIRE, and the photographic exhibtion.

'Sipping the Velvet'

'What is it about corsets, red velvet fabrics and fine Victorian manners that make us squirm so nicely?' Come for a night of Theatre, cocktails and fabulous music.

When: Thursday 16 November. Bar opens at 7pm, show starts at 8pm.

Where: The Street Theatre, Cnr Childers St & University Ave, Canberra City

Cost: $30, free cocktail at interval.

Womens' Purple Party 2006

Entertainment will include the return of the very popular "XX Factor" and special guest DJs. All profits going to Women's shelters in and around Canberra.

BYO plus a bar with basic drinks - happy hour prices from 7-8:30pm.

When: From 7pm, Saturday 18 November

Where: Majura Hall, Rosevear Place, Dickson ACT

Cost: $20 waged, $15 unwaged and all include a free drink before 8:30pm.

ACTOUT Car Tour

Bring your car, map and pen tour to seek out interesting and unusual places whilst answering puzzling and intriguing questions. The best tourers who successfully arrive at the destination will receive some 'fabulous' prizes. Run by the ACT Outdoor Group.

Bushdance

The Canberra Gay and Lesbian Tennis Club's Bushdance is the premier event of the Canberra GLBT community. It's a hoot!

When: From 7.30pm Saturday 25 November

Where: Yarralumla Woolshed. Cotter Road, Yarralumla.
