Some of the greatest songs of the 20th century were calls for radical change and an end to the fearsome conflicts of the Cold War. They were revolutionary messages about justice and peace arising out of the countercultural movements of the 60s and 70s.
'The Power of Song,' the Canberra Gay & Lesbian Qwire’s 2006 concert, brings many of these great songs back to life and new meaning in the 21st century. This concert is going to be one of the Qwire’s best: beautiful a cappella and stunning accompanied arrangements of such classics as John Lennon's 'Imagine,' great 60s numbers from the era of flower power, and contemporary medleys combining favourites from the decades of protest.
The Qwire is delighted to be singing in this concert with guest choirs Canberra Union Voices and the Sydney Solidarity Choir.
Come along for the ride back to the radical past and into the future where politics and protest as popular movements are returning with a vengeance.
