Youth InterACT Conference & Youth Week 2006

National Youth Week is coming up at the end of March and the beginning of April. This week celebrates young people in Australia. It would be great to get lots of Qnetters along to the Youth InterACT Conference! The details for the conference, and other events to be held in Canberra are below:

Youth InterACT Conference 2006 'Your Territory'

The Annual Youth InterACT Conference gives young people an opportunity to learn new skills, participate, have fun and let their voices be heard. The Conference is part of the Youth InterACT initiative, which invites all young people in the ACT to participate and have their say.

'Your Territory' is the fourth Youth InterACT conference for young people aged 12-25 in the ACT hosted by the Office for Children, Youth and Family Support, Department of Disability, Housing and Community Services.

'Your Territory' gives young people the opportunity to influence youth policy and have a say about issues that affect them. Participants will be albe to take part in workshops covering topics such as:

Ms Katy Gallagher MLA, the Minister for Children, Youth and Familt Support will open the conference. The opening of the conference provides the backdrop for the launch of National Youth Week in the ACT.

Following the conference, participants are invited to attend the National Youth Week Expo in Garema Place, Civic (see below).

Conference registration forms are available online. If you're at school, the conference organisers can write to your school to ask them to give you the day off! If you're under 18, you'll need permission from a parent or guardian.

Youth Week Expo

National Youth Week's big opening event right in the heart of Canberra City. The Red Cross's 'Save-A-Mate' project wil host a great line up of bands, DJ's and dance, including a full afternnoon of food, art and recreation.

The event is being held by Youth Coalition of ACT and will be held in Canberra on Saturday, April 01, 2006.

Expo '06 (Gungahlin)

Expo '06 will showcase the talents, achievements, abilities and creativity of all young people showing that the contribution of young people to the community is both a positive and valued one. Young people will be given the opporutunity to express themselves through a variety of different ways.

The event is being held by Gungahlin Regional Community Service and will be held in Gungahlin on Saturday, April 01, 2006.

Up Your Art

This art exhibition showcases young people's talents. Individual artworks are a product from workshops funded by YWCA and other community services.

Breakdance crews and individual dnacers strut their stuff in dance compeitions. This event invites and encourages young people to see their peers perform with a view to inspiring and developing breakdance in ACT youth and showcasing the talents of those already involved.

MY voice

The Multicultural Youth Services will host five afternoon forums on differenct cultures.Young multicultural people will speak, encouraging the audience to ask honest, candid and relavent questions about their cultural background.Cultures explored include Sudanese, Islam, Burmese and Pacific Island.

Young Canberra Citizen of the Year 2006 Ceremony

Youth InterACT Grants & Scholarships Ceremony

Annoucement of the successful applicants.The Youth InterACT Grants provides funding up to $1500 to young people to organise projects, events, activities and programs for other young people in the ACT.The Youth InterACT Scholarships provide up to $500 for young people to attend conferences or events
