A dozen people caught in the limelight of defining moments ranging from poignant to crazily funny. A priest slides towards heresy, a self-styled aristocrat takes his flavour of the month for a weekend at The Pines, a hustler looks for security, an enraged abandoned lover packs his ex-partners turtle collection, and an overwrought porno director creates an epic with a French candelabra. All the characters share a sexual identity, but these monologues are unified by their focus on believable humanity.

Telling Moments captures a wide diversity of moments occurring in everyday life to everyday people; situations which have huge effects on our lives but do not get the attention they deserve. Telling Moments is entertaining theatre which delivers a handful of thought provoking situations enticing us to begin a dialogue in our lives about the issues raised.

Telling Moments is a moving piece of theatre that requires actors of immense concentration, depth and ability to deliver a full performance in a short space of time. The short three hand scenes and monologues aren’t simply actors standing on stage talking. The characters interact and have dialogue with others, and it is the actors’ challenge to make these others exist in the minds of the audience.

The piece is a collaboration, founded on a set of monologues by American playwright Robert Reinhart, with inclusions from Australian and international writers. Doorway by Tessa Bremner and two pieces by Adele Lewin are being performed for the first time. Lewin is also in the cast of Telling Moments.

ARTS Theatre Company was set up in September 2003 by four Canberra thespians: Stephen Pike, Adam Maher, Rhys Holden and Tony Magee. ARTS was originally set up as a collaboration of artists to produce Jonathan Harvey's Beautiful Thing in January 2004 at the Street Theatre Studio. The season was quite successful (broke box-office records, completely sold out all performances) and ARTS went on to produce Boom Bang-a-Bang by the same author in June and July of 2004 at the Canberra Theatre Centre.
