Great books

Some good books with queer themes. We want your suggestions! Post good books you've read on the great books thread.

Holding the Man Timothy Conigrave. A beautifully written autobiography about growing up gay in Australia, love and friendship, and the impact of HIV/AIDS.

me talk pretty some day David Sedaris. An hilarious collection of autobiographical short stories about a gay American living in France.

The XY Survival Guide Benjie Nycum. A great guide to being young and gay. Published by the American XY Magazine.

The Monkey's Mask Dorothy Porter. A lesbian crime bestseller.

Sushi Central Alasdair Duncan. The story of a sixteen-year-old boy in Brisbane. "Go out. Take a pill. Meet a boy. Dance. Recover. Repeat."

Loaded Christos Tsiolkas. The book that the film, 'Head On', starring Alex Dimitriades was based on. A young man tries to get to terms with being both greek and gay. Christos used to work at the Electric Shadows Bookshop in Civic.

Tales of the City (or any of the sequels). Armistead Maupin. Kind of a soap opera set in San Francisco in the 70s and 80s. The lives of the residents of 28 Barbary Lane are constantly entwined.

The Night Listener Armistead Maupin. An older gay man becomes a mentor for a very young abused boy living with HIV. This semi-autobiographical novel plays with layers of reality and what is real and what isn't.

(blurbs for the books below are coming, eventually...)

Maurice EM Forster.

Orlando Virginia Woolf.

Tipping The Velvet Sarah Waters.

The Well of Lonliness Radcliffe Hall.

Salome Oscar Wilde.

Fire From Heaven Mary Renault.

Boy Meets Boy

Tom Ripley series (The Talented Mr. Ripley, Ripley Under Ground, Ripley's Game, The Boy Who Followed Ripley and Ripley Underwater) Patricia Highsmith.
